The ability to measure precise distances within PDF documents is very important for many different kinds of people. Interior designers use PDFs to measure spaces in someone's home, architects use PDFs to share blueprints or floor plans, and healthcare workers often use PDFs for medical imaging. For all of these people, it's extremely important that they can accurately make measurements in a PDF.
Now UPDF, a leader in the PDF software industry, has an exciting new feature in the Windows and Mac versions to help users create quick and accurate measurements within PDFs! UPDF for Windows and Mac now have a measuring tool that can help you measure distances, perimeters, and areas within your PDFs.
What PDF Measuring Tools Does UPDF Have?
UPDF's new measuring tools can create three different measurements: distance, perimeter, and area.
Distance: The distance tool can measure the precise distance from one point to another. If you have a PDF blueprint of your house, you can use the distance tool to measure the length of a bedroom wall so you know what size bed will fit in that room.
Perimeter: The perimeter tool measures the distance around something. If you want to add a garden to your front yard, you can use the perimeter tool on your blueprint PDF to measure the perimeter of your yard so you know what size to make the garden.
Area: The area tool allows you to measure the total area of any shape that you draw. For example, if you want to know the total area of the bedroom and closet together, you can use the area tool to draw a shape and get the measurement for the entire area.

You can release after clicking your starting point, and then as you move your mouse, the distance line will follow. As you draw your line, you can reference the measurement window in the bottom right corner, which includes the distance, angle, x and y axis distances, scale ratio, and the degree of precision. Click the point that you want to end the measurement at.
You can now right click on your mouse and choose Complete Measurement, Cancel Measurement, or Measure Preferences.
Step 3: You can open Measure Preferences to change the settings of your distance. In this menu, you can set the scale ratio to your preference. You can also change how precise you want the measurement to be. Finally, you can also change the label of this measurement. When you're satisfied with the settings, you can click the X in the top right corner. Then, double click to finish measuring the distance.
Step 4: Let's change some of the properties of the measurement. Click on the measurement and choose the Properties icon.
Step 5: In this menu, you can change the color, opacity, and thickness of the measuring line. Change the color to one of UPDF's preset colors, or choose a custom color. You can change the opacity to make it more or less transparent, and you can change the thickness of the line.

Step 2: Click the starting point of the perimeter you want to measure. Click at each point on the perimeter where it changes direction, following the outline of whatever you want to measure. As you draw the perimeter, you will see the total distance of the perimeter so far. You can also see more information in the measurement window, such as distance, perimeter, angle, x and y axis distances, scale ratio, and precision.
Step 3: When you are done, you can right click to Complete Measurement, Cancel Measurement, or view Measure Preferences.
Step 4: You can select Measure Preferences to change some of the settings.
Step 5: When you're done, you can click on the perimeter and open the Properties icon. From here, you can change the color, opacity, and thickness of the perimeter tool. When you're satisfied with this, remember to save your PDF.
