UPDF AI for Mac

UPDF AI for Mac is an all-in-one AI assistant to deal with PDFs more autonomously and efficiently. With UPDF AI, you can summarize, translate, and explain PDFs or carry out human-like chats with the AI assistant.

UPDF AI for Mac offers two modes:

1. Ask PDF Mode
2. Chat Mode

To use UPDF AI for Mac, open the PDF with UPDF and click the UPDF AI Assistant icon from the bottom right corner.

1. Ask PDF Mode

Ask PDF mode is designed to fulfill all your assistant needs for the PDF. In this mode, you can ask the UPDF AI assistant to summarize, translate, or explain the PDF content and get a response instantly.

A. Summarize PDF

Ask PDF mode supports two ways to summarize a PDF. You can get the summary of the whole PDF or ask to summarize a few paragraphs or pages.

1. From the UPDF AI sidebar, choose the Ask PDF tab.

2. Click Get Started to let UPDF AI process and analyze the PDF.

3. After analysis, UPDF AI will automatically summarize the whole PDF.

4. To summarize a few paragraphs, select and copy them. Afterward, type "summarize this: [paste the copied paragraphs]" in the AI chat box and press Enter.

Alternatively, you can access the AI summarize feature by directly selecting the content in the PDF and choosing the "Summarize" assistant.

UPDF AI will then automatically summarize the selected content, and you'll be able to save the summary with a sticky note.

B. Translate PDF

Ask PDF mode can translate a few sentences, paragraphs, or even pages in your PDF in different languages, such as Chinese, Japanese, German, Italian, etc.

1. Select and copy the text/paragraph you intend to translate.
2. Under the Ask PDF tab in the UPDF AI sidebar, type "translate in Chinese: [paste the copied text/paragraph here]" in the chat box and press Enter.

Besides Chinese, you can also follow the above steps to translate into other languages.

UPDF also supports direct selection of PDF text for translation. To do so, simply select the content you want to translate and choose the "Translate" assistant.

C. Explain PDF

PDFs often contain complicated descriptions that are difficult for readers to comprehend. Ask PDF mode assists here by intelligently analyzing the content and providing simplified explanations.

1. Select and copy the text/paragraph you want further elaboration on.
2. Under the Ask PDF tab in the UPDF AI sidebar, type "explain: [paste the copied text/paragraph here]" in the chat box and press Enter.

Similar to the above two features, you can also select the content in the document and choose the "Explain" assistant. UPDF will automatically explain the selected words, phrases, sentences, or paragraphs for you.

2. Chat Mode

As the name implies, the Chat mode of UPDF AI allows UPDF users to ask about anything from the AI assistant, not just confined to the PDF. You can use Chat mode in the following ways:

A. Summarize

Chat mode can provide a summary of any type of content related to any field.

1. Copy the content you want to summarize.
2. Under the Chat tab in the UPDF AI sidebar, choose Summarize from the drop-down button located above the chat box.
3. Paste the content in the chat box and press Enter.

B. Translate

Just like Ask PDF mode, the Chat mode also supports translating content into different languages.

1. Copy the content you want to summarize.
2. Under the Chat tab in the UPDF AI sidebar, choose Translate from the drop-down button located above the chat box.
3. Pick the language in which you want to translate.
4. Paste the content in the chat box and press Enter.

C. Explain

If you are struggling to understand some text, the Chat mode allows you to get a more easy-to-read explanation of the passage.

1. Copy the content you want to summarize.
2. Under the Chat tab in the UPDF AI sidebar, choose Explain from the drop-down button located above the chat box.
3. Paste the content in the chat box and press Enter.

D. Human-Like Conversations

Chat mode also acts as a robotic companion by providing human-like conversations. This allows you to have a normal conversation with the UPDF AI assistant to get answers to any kind of question.

For instance, if you are reading medical research and come across a question about common risk factors for cardiovascular diseases. You can use the chat box to ask questions from the AI assistant and get the appropriate answer instantly.

E. Writing + Rewriting

If you have some content ideas in mind, want to brainstorm some ideas, or want to draft the outline, the Chat mode can assist in all such requests. All you have to do is input the request to the AI assistant and get the correct response. For instance, if you want to write the "steps to plan digital marketing strategy", simply type it in the chat box, press Enter, and get the content instantly.

You can also do rewriting with Chat mode. Simply copy the content, type “rewrite: [paste the copied content]” in the chat box and press Enter. UPDF AI will instantly provide a rewritten version of the content.

F. Check

Chat mode also empowers you to improve content quality by fixing grammar, spelling, and other mistakes. To do that, copy the content and type "check grammar: [paste the copied content]" and press Enter. The AI assistant will analyze the grammar and provide relevant suggestions. You can do the same for spells or other checks.
